THE VINEYARD

Our vineyard has the originality of bringing together over 50 hectares all the types of soils characterizing the appellation. It is spread over the different terraces of the Lot made up of a limestone subsoil enriched with ancient alluvium, and on the causse made up of stones coated with marl and clay. Planted with 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot, the Pineraie vines are positioned on the 2nd and 3rd terraces and on the limestone plateaus.

In fact, around ten hectares are located in the commune of Lacapelle Cabannac, clay at the bottom, clay-limestone and hard flint at the top.

On each plot the yields are adapted and controlled to obtain ripe and healthy grapes, and thus get the best from each.

We are particularly keen on controlling quality, so we have been practicing organic cultivation since 2017.

Preserving the richness of our land became obvious.

Indeed, organic farming allows us to preserve our environment, fauna and flora, soil, water and human health.

The vine stock must evolve in a healthy, fertile and living environment!

Organic cultivation is a philosophy to which we must adopt an agronomic reality.

In addition to the organic criteria implemented for two years, we have a conservation crop which is a farming technique intended to maintain and improve the agronomic potential of the soil: reduction of tillage, use of plant cover.

Contrary to what we had learned (systematic weeding and tillage) we grass our plots with grasses (clovers) and legumes (beans, lentils) which we sow after the harvest.

The occupation of these seedlings leaves no room for weeds and the root system allows natural tillage.

This allows the soil to be decompacted and an underground micro flora and micro fauna to develop.

The living soil is inhabited by tireless volunteer tillers: earthworms, field mice...

In the case of vines we must avoid food competition and destroy this cover towards the end of spring which at that time provides green manure as it degrades.

This system makes it possible to avoid too many tractor trips (reduction of the carbon footprint).

This year, for example, we sowed fava beans on certain plots and lentils on others.

The choice is made according to the root system of these plants and the nutritional contribution of each according to the needs of the plots determined according to regular analyses.

More and more of these crops attract many useful insects.

This is what we call agroecology!

It is also thanks to this that we decided this year to install beehives on our estate.

THIS IS WHAT

Thinking about quality involves protecting nature, health and people’s safety.

Organic cultivation has become a priority at Château Pineraie because a pure and healthy environment is the key

for a sustainable and serene future.

The vine speaks and you have to know how to listen to it! The maintenance of the vine is based on permanent observation of its condition.

The slightest deficiency is declared by the state of the leaf.

This is how she expresses her slightest discomfort to us so that we can treat her.

ONE ESTATE, FOUR AOC CAHORS CUVÉES

A&E Rouge

From young vines, composed of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot. The entirety of the harvest of this vintage is sorted by hand.

Poème

We chose a verse from our great-grandfather, artist-winemaker, hence the name of this Cuvée. This Cuvée is a 100% Malbec that we harvest on the limestone plateau.

It is aged for 12 months in terracotta jars, which provides natural micro-oxygenation while preserving the aromas and qualities of Malbec.

 Château Pineraie

Composed of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot, this wine contains all the typicality of Cahors. It is vinified with the aim of obtaining soft tannins, following yields around 45 hectoliters per hectare.

L'Authentique du Château Pineraie

It is already one of the essential classics of the quality charter. This 100% Malbec comes from 5 hectares of very old vines planted in 1920, on the 3rd terraces with a gravelly and siliceous clay-sandy mantle.
